Opening- “over eight hundred thousand teenage lives are drastically altered just by using the device we know as a pregnancy test.” “Due to the fact that most young people begin to engage in sexual activity in their mid-to late teen years, about eight years before they get married, almost 1 million teenage women become pregnant ,10% of them are at the range of 15-19 years of age.”
Teen pregnancy is much higher in the United States then in any other country, but similar to other countries,78% of all pregnancies are unplanned. Most teenage mothers have involuntary sex the first time, due to either peer pressure or pressure from their sexual partner. Either way without the proper use of a contraceptive the female is most likely to become pregnant within the first year of becoming sexually active.”
After pregnancy is diagnosed " The shock is weird for most teenage mothers who endure the horrifying truth of being pregnant at a young age. Most go through the stages of denial, depression, and then the fear kicks in of what others may think. There are several options for teens mothers who come to the heart wrenching decision to either keep or abort their child. Since most teen pregnancy occurs within low-income homes, adoption or abortion are the first two options to chosen among teen mothers. 40% of all teen pregnancies end up in abortion, but this increase is steadily decreasing , because most teen mother’s get into the room, hear their child’s heartbeat for the first time, and immediately change their decision.”
A Teaching Of Teen Pregnancy 102
Consequences-
“By teenagers being so young and their bodies still going through development themselves, the decision to have the child could come with extremely dangerous risks. Birth defects, premature labor, even death for both the mother and unborn child can occur during childbirth. Not only will it be difficult for the mother physically, but completing high school is at a 41% high, as opposed to getting a college degree, which is at a devastating 1.5%. Financially most teen mothers go on welfare for at least the first year, because the strain is so great economically.”
Out of all the information I have given you today, all the statistics, and facts ,the number one reason for pregnancy is what I call the it can’t happen to me syndrome. This belief impairs the partner into thinking that if they use the pull-out method they will be safe. It can happen to you ,everyone of you and I am living proof, I am a statistic who believed that I was invincible, but I was proved wrong.
I found out I was pregnant when I was 16 in the 10th grade and refused to become another statistic, that would never graduate from high school and. I graduated ,and will continue to better myself. It is not easy being a teen mother, sleeping is a distant memory ,the crying never stops, and neither does the baby who takes from you both financially and physically. So understand that teenage pregnancy is declining, but it is still an epidemic, so use protection and hope that you do not have to use a pregnancy test until the right time comes around, in which case you will know.”
